BMG Money Eligibility Checklist
Before applying, run through this checklist to see if you qualify:
No Minimum Credit Score
BMG Money does not have a minimum FICO credit score requirement. They do not perform a hard credit inquiry. The application uses a soft pull that does not affect your credit score. Your primary qualification criteria are:
- Your employment status (active federal employee or retiree)
- Your agency's participation in the allotment program
- Your state of residence
- Sufficient disposable income to accommodate the loan payment within your paycheck allotment limits
Eligible Employee Categories
Federal Civilian Employees (LoansForFeds / LoansAtWork)
This is BMG Money's largest borrower group. Eligible employees include those at:
- All cabinet-level federal agencies (DoD, VA, DHS, Treasury, DOJ, State, etc.)
- Independent agencies (SSA, CFPB, FTC, EEOC, etc.)
- U.S. Postal Service (USPS) β both craft and management
- Federal law enforcement agencies (FBI, DEA, ATF, TSA, CBP, Border Patrol)
- Federal courts system employees
- Congressional employees (certain positions)
Active-Duty Military (LoansAtWork Military)
Active-duty service members of the six uniformed services paid through DFAS may be eligible, subject to the Military Lending Act (MLA). MLA caps the Military Annual Percentage Rate (MAPR) at 36% for covered transactions.
Federal Retirees
Retired federal employees receiving pension annuities from:
- Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS)
- Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS)
- Military Retired Pay (DoD)
- USPS Retirees on annuity
Annuity deductions are processed through the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
What BMG Money Does NOT Require
- No minimum FICO credit score
- No hard credit inquiry
- No home ownership or collateral
- No co-signer or co-borrower
- No minimum years of employment (most programs)
- No proof of specific income amount (verified through agency)
Who Does NOT Qualify
- Private sector employees β BMG Money only serves federal/qualifying government workers
- State and local government employees β unless their specific agency has a BMG Money partnership
- Self-employed individuals β no payroll allotment possible
- Residents of ineligible states β not currently available in all 50 states
- Veterans not actively receiving retirement pay β VA disability alone may not qualify
Required Information for Your Application
Have the following ready when you apply:
- Social Security Number
- Date of birth
- Current employer / agency name
- Employee ID or personnel file number (some agencies)
- Bank account and routing numbers for fund delivery
- Desired loan amount and term
